This former waste incinerator was reconditioned into a modern, LEED-Certified facility for a sanitation department.
Sustainability Features:
Repurposed building materials
Improved indoor air quality
Energy-efficient LED lighting
A combustion-free HVAC system
The adaptive reuse of the Northeast Incinerator subdivides the interior to provide storage and workshop spaces for maintenance of the sanitation division’s equipment, as well as restrooms, shower and locker rooms, and office spaces for the division’s staff. DIG was brought in on the project after the architectural and engineering designs were largely completed, to provide building code analysis and assistance with responding to construction code officials’ reviews and inspection comments. DIG’s team facilitated the process so that the reconditioning work could be completed and a certification of occupancy could be obtained.
The Northeast Incinerator building rehabilitation achieved LEED Certification in 2022.
